In the UK in the early 80’s, if you wanted to get your hands on the latest US HipHop and Soul club hits you’d usually have to pay US import prices. Then came the StreetSounds record label. They delighted many in the UK, hungry to get their hands on the latest vinyl, with their StreetSounds Electro compilation albums. Along with the StreetWave label, they licenced many popular US tracks producing over 23 compilations of full length version and mixes of the latest Electro and Hiphop mixes at UK prices!
Not only were the StreetSounds Electro compilations classic Hiphop albums, the album covers are also classic album covers. As a personal project we’ve created these Japanese versions of the first four StreetSounds Electro compilation album covers!

Great kinetic typography video of “True School” by DJ Jean Maron feat KRS ONE. A perfect choice of slab serif type used on this! Although it’s a little harsh on Puff Daddy.
The Delegates Of Rhyme return with their new single “Look At What They Do”. The Bristol and Brixton based team of producer Vice and lyricist Donnie Numeric since 2011, with their release of the mixture version of “Spark” have been busy in the lab, developing a sound that involves a different approach. Basing a number of tracks on live instrumentation, and developing it into original, interesting Hip Hop, the duo have finally completed their highly anticipated album “Assemblage”, which is due for release later this year.
Based on their previous tracks and their most recent work, I’m really looking forward to it.
OVER HERE in Bristol’s Corn Exchange doesn’t just sell the the latest uchi garments. As well as an amazing quality collection from Spam T shirts it’s got a selection of Berlin Boomboxes.
So “what the dickens is a Berlin Boombox?” you might ask…
